Q&A with Robert Schrage, Solutions Architect for Telx

Q. Welcome aboard, Rob. Can you give us a little about your background before joining Telx?

Most of my career was spent in the media and financial services industry while working at Thomson Reuters.  I held many positions there, ranging from board-level design and engineering to Research & Development.  Most recently, I served as the Global Head of Network Architecture before coming to Telx.

Q. As Solutions Architect, what are your responsibilities?

As the Director of Solutions Architecture, I work directly with Telx’s customers and the sales and marketing teams. We join forces in capturing requirements to enable product and business growth.  I also use my industry experience and technical knowledge for thought leadership.  I put this to work with the Telx internal sales, marketing and business development teams to create solutions that drive sales and maintain customer satisfaction.

Staying ahead of demand: Telx pushes into Metro markets and beyond

By Glenn Calafati

This year, our goal is to leverage our award-winning Ethernet Exchange in tandem with our full suite of interconnection services to spearhead a major push into the Metro markets and beyond. We see an opportunity based on the current explosion in demand for bandwidth capacity. This historic spike in network traffic is being driven by IP growth, video, mobility, SaaS/cloud services along with hybrid compute models (just to name a few application areas), and therefore, much more information is transversing pubic networks and heavily interconnected private networks.

This application growth, along with enterprises’ desire to outsource data center services, is driving the rapid growth in data center demand, in conjunction with interconnection services. The combined growth of data centers and interconnection services is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 19% a year over the next two years to be a $23.4 billion dollar business in 2013, according to Tier1 Research’s Multi-Tenant Data Center Global Markets Overview - 2011 report.
