Telx understands the responsibility it has in keeping its customer’s mission critical operations safe and secure. Telx takes this obligation very seriously. For that reason, Telx is committed to ensuring the highest possible levels of security in all of its interconnection and colocation facilities across the United States. As such, Telx has implemented security procedures designed to ensure that access to Telx facilities is tightly controlled. While at times extra security measures may seem inconvenient, we know that our customers appreciate the level of security and restricted access we require across all facilities.
At the heart of access management at Telx is the Customer Access List. Telx maintains an access list database of contacts for each customer with details specifying contact information and permissions.
The purpose of this contact database is twofold:
- To maintain customer contact information for notification and escalation purposes
- To store access rights indicating the contact’s permissions to enter Telx facilities and/or request billable services
Each contact in the access list database is recorded with the following information:
- Contact information (email, phone, title, etc.)
- Escalation level (if applicable, 1/2/3)
- Administrative user (if applicable)
- Facilities which the contact has access to enter
- Authorization to request billable services (place orders)
- Validity dates for the contact (relevant to contractors or guests)
Telx Customers are proactively contacted regularly to ensure that their access lists are accurate and up to date.

Physical and Environmental Security
Telx colocation centers offer premier conditioned space, state-of-the-art access control and surveillance systems. Telx Meet Me Rooms and colocation centers provide a managed, network-neutral, secure environment for Core Interconnection networking elements. Access to Telx colocation and interconnection centers, including Meet Me Areas, is controlled by building security and badge access systems, as well as biometric systems to prevent unauthorized users from entering the facility. The facilities are physically segregated from general building access.
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units are located inside the facilities. Municipal electricity powers the building, which powers the UPS system. The primary UPS is monitored daily and performance results are monitored. All Telx facilities are equipped with generator backups that automatically supply power to Telx facilities the event of a commercial power failure. Maintenance contracts are in place to ensure the equipment is maintained to the equipment vendor’s specifications.
Telx regimented preventative maintenance program is designed to ensure facility availability. This is accomplished through our comprehensive maintenance of Power, HVAC, Fire Suppression, & Security Systems supporting all Telx facilities. The scope of Telx preventative maintenance is based on a combination of manufacture recommended guidelines while customizing these guidelines to our customer’s actual utilization of the infrastructure. Performed by certified technicians & partners, Telx performs inspections & maintenance on over 200 components on these mission critical systems daily, bi-monthly, monthly, quarterly, tri-annually & annually. These inspections allow Telx to maintain the highest levels of quality & availability.
Colocation and interconnection facilities are equipped with surveillance cameras located at strategic areas within each facility. Surveillance recordings are maintained for a minimum of 30 days on DVR. Environmental equipment including HVAC, UPS, PDUs, generators, adequate lighting and fire suppression are also present at each facility. In addition, this equipment is maintained at scheduled intervals.
Fire, smoke and water detectors are installed throughout the facilities. Air conditioning units in Telx’ facilities are maintained separate from and independent of the building’s general air conditioning systems and maintain temperature and humidity conditions appropriate for hardware.
Problem Management
Telx maintains documented problem resolution policies and procedures for its colocation and interconnection environment.
