NEW YORK & FREMONT, Calif. Jan. 26, 2009 – Telx, a leading colocation and interconnection service provider, and Hurricane Electric, a leading Internet Protocol version six (IPv6) Internet service provider, have forged a relationship to provide next-generation IP access services to Telx Dedicated Internet Access, or DIA service, for customers that are colocated within specific Telx facilities. Telx DIA with IPv6 will initially be available in Telx facilities at 56 Marietta Street in Atlanta, 100 Delawanna Avenue in Clifton, N.J., and 60 Hudson Street and 111 8th Avenue in New York City. Hurricane Electric is also the largest IPv6 service provider connected to the Telx Internet Exchange (TIE) in Atlanta.
Telx’s DIA Service already provides customers with robust, secure Internet connectivity; by working with Hurricane Electric, Telx will add the benefits of the IPv6, including improved packet routing for enhanced quality of service, new header options that speed traffic routing and improve security, the ability to send a message to several hosts at one time, and perhaps most importantly, more Internet address space to accommodate growth. With longer Internet address schemes every one of the billions of IP-enabled devices in the world today – including computers, handheld and wireless devices, PDAs, phones and MP3 players – can have its own unique IP address without potential for conflict when two devices need to connect to one another, allowing for greater interconnection possibilities among devices.

Hurricane Electric deployed IPv6 on its global backbone beginning in 2001, and the company now interconnects with more than 360 associated IPv6 backbones, nearly twice as many as its nearest rivals. It is one of the few global backbones that is IPv6 native and does not rely on internal tunnels for its connectivity. IPv6 at Hurricane Electric is now considered to be a core service and every customer is provided IPv6 connectivity as well as classic IPv4 connectivity. A network upgrade performed in early 2007 enhanced the Hurricane Electric network to include complete, dual-stack IPv4 & IPv6 services at every worldwide point of presence (PoP), including locations in the US, Europe, and Asia, with additional PoPs slated to open globally in 2009.
